REPORTS TO: President and hired by the Board of Directors
WORKS WITH: President, Officers, Board, Staff, member leaders and SEIU staff and officers.

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY:
The MSEA SEIU Local 1989 Executive Director is responsible for
direct supervision of management staff and integration of staff with overall strategic direction of MSEA
hiring and firing of staff
general administration of MSEA under the direction of the Board of Directors and the supervision of the President
implement the policies and directives of the Board of Directors.
JOB DEMANDS: Salaried position, long and irregular hours, frequent travel and occasional overnight stays. A valid driver's license and a vehicle are required.
COMPETENCIES:
Extensive knowledge and experience in all aspects of the labor movement.
Strong knowledge of and experience in government and public policy.
Ability to analyze union issues and prioritize work demands
Knowledge of union history, organization, and programs
Clear strategic thinking to prioritize staff work and help lead staff in dramatically changing political environment under intense internal and external pressure
Proven manager and supervisor capable of building high performing teams, and motivating and developing staff.
High level of facilitation and leadership skills in collaborative work.
Exemplary proficiency in written and oral communication, listening and conflict resolution.
High level ability to make sound independent judgments and take initiative.
Emotional intelligence and professional self-management under pressure.
Proficiency in professional writing, word processing and email communication.
Professional standards of behavior and appearance.
Advanced degree in labor relations, public policy or related field or equivalent experience required.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Ensure that the policies, directives, budget, Constitution and By-laws of MSEA are carried out and implemented by an efficient staff:
o Provide oversight for all programs carried out by MSEA staff.
o Develop annual work plan designed to meet the goals of MSEA.
o Work closely with Finance Committee to develop an annual budget.
o Provide supervision and evaluation of MSEA management staff.
o Ensure optimum operational efficiency and coordination.
o Ensure that staff functions in a manner consistent with the policies and directives of the Board and the Council.
o Participate in the negotiation and administration of contracts between MSEA and the staff union (SOMSEA).
o Function as a liaison between staff and MSEA officers.
o Report to the Board and Council on the functions, needs, and status of staff.
o Ensure that staff remains current with developments on labor relations and the Labor Movement.
o Drive the political culture within management and staff of MSEA.
Provide information and support to the Board of Directors, the Council and various membership committees in the development and implementation of MSEA policies and directives.
o Attend meetings of the Board of Directors, Council, and other committees as needed to inform and advise.
o Provide communications necessary to ensure that policies and directives developed by the Board of Directors and the Council reflect a coordinated coherent program.
Ensure that the flow of internal and external communication is timely and consistent with MSEA policies and directives.
o Serve as the MSEA designate with affiliated organizations.
o Deliver the MSEA message to media, coalition partners and legislature, as assigned.
o Serve as Managing Editor of the Maine Stater

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
