Chief of Radiology

1. Demonstrates leadership in interpreting and supporting the VISN mission, vision and values, while operating in accordance with Veterans Health Administration (VHA) policies, facility and VISN policies, and standards of federal and professional and accrediting agencies external to the VHA. 2. Identifies Best Practices both within and outside VISN 1 and exports to wider community or imports for use within the Medical Center. 3. Participates in the strategic planning process and incorporates a view for the future in the Radiology Service plan. Participates in developing an annual budget for the Radiology Service. 4. Recommends privileging requirements for the performance of radiologic procedures, based on training and/or experience, current competence and health status, as well as consideration of any information related to medical malpractice allegations or judgments, loss of medical staff membership, loss and/or reduction of clinical privileges, or challenges to licensure. 5. Reviews all request for initial and renewal credentials and clinical privileges and making recommendations regarding appointment and privileging action. The Chief of Radiology Service must maintain performance data on all physicians and use this data in recommending renewal of privileges. Physician performance data includes competency review of interpretations, personal workload, maintenance of certification, and participation/attendance in quality improvement activities. 6. Establishes plans and policies which are consistent with federal regulations, VHA Directives, and The Joint Commission standards. Physician productivity:
Monitors the productivity of radiologists to ensure the average workload of the service meets VHA defined benchmarks, and develops corrective plans if it does not. 7. Assists the Chief of Staff in the enforcement of the policies of the Medical Center Bylaws, and Rules and Regulations of the staff. 8. Serves on hospital committees and task forces, both standing and ad hoc, as appropriate. Program Management 1. Plans for the provision of care, including adequate personnel, diagnostic equipment, and supplies to ensure availability of those procedures which are appropriate to the needs of the facility. 2. Assures equitable radiologist duty assignments which are appropriate to training and experience. 4.Responsible for the development of and adherence to standard procedures and protocols. 5.Monitors activities which improve patient safety, performance and quality. 6.Maintains a safe radiation environment. 7.Ensures the privacy and confidentiality of patient medical information. 8.Ensures accurate CPT coding and assignment of workload as well as DSS resource mapping and physician labor mapping parameters. 9.Ensures compliance with federal statutes, VA directives and policies, and The Joint Commission standards. Resource Management 1.Supervises the Radiology Manager, PACS Administrators, and Radiologists. 2.Responsible for action in matters such as promotions, selections, on the job training, awards, EEO complaints, labor relations, disciplinary actions, training, and career development. 3.Responsible for the development of mechanisms to assure staff competency and continuing education compliance. 4.Establishes employee performance plans that align with Agency and Departmental goals and objectives, and is responsible for evaluating and communicating employee performance. 5.Develops a team that is technically competent and understands the interrelationship of the Radiology Service with other facility Service Lines and departments to achieve the mission of the Medical Center and VISN. Organizational Effectiveness 1. Monitor and promote compliance with VA regulations and professional standards pertaining to outside professional activities and ethical conduct. 2.Monitor and promote cooperation and compliance of the clinical staff with Department, federal and state law and regulations; medical staff bylaws and rules; facility policies; and JC (The Joint Commission) standards as applicable to the individual, profession or facility. 3.Promote No Fear atmosphere among staff to promote open communication to both identify clinical patient care problems and joint working together for timely solutions. Quality Management 1.Create an environment of system oriented continuous quality improvement, within which program and quality of care effectiveness are evaluated. 2.Ensure that Radiology Service staff are aware of patients' rights and provide service directed toward assuring these rights are honored and protected; this includes the assurance of patient privacy, confidentiality and a safe environment in which patients receive care. 3.Promote establishment and maintenance of effective quality improvement practices within the facility that are consistent with VA Central Office quality management policy. United States Citizenship:
Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. Experience:
Board Certified Radiologist required for Chief Position Reference:
VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office. Physical Requirements:
The work is sedentary. No specific physical qualifications are required. The work includes walking, bending, stooping, and some lifting, usually not more than ten pounds.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
