Medical Technician - Nights

Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Collects and processes blood specimens using instrumentation such as centrifuges; Accurately labels and transfers specimens to proper tubes for storage, shipping, or testing; Investigates and documents processing, labeling, collection, and other specimen errors using incident reports; Performs data entry associated with phlebotomy; Operates instruments that perform blood testing in the areas of Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, Coagulation, and testing in urinalysis and Microbiology; Identifies abnormal cellular morphology that will provide the clinician with information related to disease processes and blood cell abnormalities; Performs urine microscopy examinations, urine drug screen analysis, fecal occult blood analysis, etc.; Operates instruments for the determination of prothrombin time for warfarin monitoring, activated partial thromboplastin time, and d-dimer testing; Performs glucose and total lipid, endocrine markers, anemia, thyroid, cardiac, and infectious disease testing; Operates, calibrates, tests, and performs preventative maintenance on complex instruments; Maintains laboratory stock and orders materials, as needed; Maintains accurate and orderly operational and quality control logs and records according to established department protocol; Performs other related duties as assigned. Monday thru Friday, 8:
00 pm - 6:
30 am, and may require coverage of routine days and evenings, as needed, and will require rotating holidays and weekends. Designated Drug-Testing Position:
Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. English Language Proficiency:

Experience:
One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-6) in Federal Service that has given you the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of a Medical Technician GS-7. Specialized experience includes:
(a) technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings and/or (b) technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work that required application of the methods and techniques of a Medical Lab Technician. NOTE:
Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION:
Successful completion of one (1) full year of graduate level study at an accredited college or university leading to a master's degree, with major study in subjects appropriate to the Medical Technician GS-7 position, which may include clinical hematology, clinical laboratory practices, phlebotomy practicum, clinical microbiology, clinical practicum, or special topics in the Medical Laboratory Technology field. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. NOTE:

An equivalent combination of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience, as described above, may be used to meet total experience requirements. NOTE:

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
