Assistant Nurse Manager

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Assesses, plans, implements & evaluates patient care delivery system for assigned area of responsibility. Contributes to the development of policies, procedures, &/or clinical guidelines. Serves as a resource to staff. Provides guidance to others implementing patient/family teaching programs at the unit level. Ensures that care is modified & delivered specifically to the age & developmental level of the patients. Assesses Nursing care needs & issues assignments appropriate to the level of each staff member. Ensures adequate exchange of patient information. Facilitates a mechanism to ensure that Nursing care is being delivered in a timely & appropriate manner in accordance with Nursing policies, procedures, & standards of Nursing practice & practitioners' orders. Demonstrates & promotes professional & personal integrity. Utilizes the ANA code of ethics in daily practice. Participates in Ethics consultations/guides staff in resolving ethical dilemmas Initiates effective actions in emergencies. Ensures that staff have the necessary skills, training and equipment to respond appropriately. Follows established safety & health regulations, emergency preparedness, standards, & work practices. Identifies potential for unsafe, patient &/or staff situations & initiates appropriate interventions and follow up. Tracks and trends patient and staff safety issues. Demonstrate financial skills in performing cost/benefit analyses, fiscal control and resource management Works with the Nurse Manager to authorize overtime only when all other alternatives have been exhausted. Demonstrates human resource management, participates in evaluating time schedule before submission to ensure that the mix of staff is appropriate & adequate to deliver safe Nursing care on every shift & rotation is equally distributed. Keeps timekeeper advised of all scheduling changes, unplanned leave, & overtime/comp time. Validates daily entry of man-hours and patient classifications, if applicable. Assigns & delegates care based on needs of the patient & the skills & knowledge of team members. Ensures compliance with infection control procedures, safety measures, & computer security. Engages in self-performance appraisal & in the performance of others on a regular basis. Provides input into performance/competency assessment of team members. Participates in applicant interviews and in hiring decisions. Collaborates with Employee Education to arrange orientation/training schedule & assigns preceptors for each new employee. Meets periodically with preceptor & new employees to evaluate performance & progress and determine readiness to work independently. Tracks performance carefully during probationary period to ensure that new employees are meeting expectations; takes appropriate action when performance is less than fully successful. Reviews documentation frequently to ensure consistency with Policy. Along with the Nurse Manager review all incident reports & institute corrective action as necessary. Collaborates with Employee Education/Human Resources to develop & implement performance improvement plans for staff members whose performance is less than fully successful. Facilitates written performance evaluations on an annual basis, or as necessary, when performance is less than fully successful & discusses evaluations with staff members. Recognizes exceptional performance by recommending incentive awards, special advancements, or other forms of recognition. Thoroughly comprehends all processes for reusable medical equipment (equipment designed by the manufacturer to be reused by multiple patients) including initial training, proper setup (assembling the RME in preparation for a procedure in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions), use and reprocessing (cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, and preparation of equipment to full readiness for its subsequent use) and maintenance according to Boston standard operating procedures (documents detailing all steps and activities of an approved process or procedure) . Training and demonstration of achieved independent skill level is validated annually. Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, develops in-service educational activities &/or unit program specific competency development based on clinical & professional areas of expertise. Identifies & implements annual unit-specific competencies. Ensures that all staff attends Annual Training & other required programs. Identifies need for in-service/training in staff meetings &/or through performance improvement activities and collaborates with Employee Education or other healthcare providers to arrange in-service/training as necessary. Maintains knowledge of current healthcare trends & professional issues & incorporates new concepts at the unit level. Work Schedule:

Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant:
The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing. Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript. (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. This position requires visual acuity, keen hearing, clear distinctive speech, and manual dexterity. This position requires potentially long periods of continued walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing. Transferring patients and objects may be required. Mechanical inpatient lifts are provided. The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing in isolation situations, operative/invasive procedures, or home settings. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium, dementia, or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs. The incumbent who provides care in home settings or other off-site locations may be required to drive and/or ride in GSA-vehicles. Work is typically performed in a clinical setting that exposes incumbent to biohazards, hazardous chemicals and hazardous medications common in the health care environment. Such exposure will be mitigated in accordance with local policies and operating procedures as per USP800 standards, OSHA guidance, and local risk assessment practices. Standard safety precautions and PPE are required and specified per local polices.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
